Types of massages
Deep Tissue Massage:

Deep Tissue Massage is designed to reach the deep portions of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers.  Using deep muscle compressions and frictions along the grain of the muscle, its purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension.

Myofascial Release:

Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Injuries, stress, trauma, overuse and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia. This is usually done by applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.

Swedish Massage:

This is considered to be one of the most popular types of massage.  Swedish Massage uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading, friction, percussive, and shaking motions or vibration techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles.  Swedish massage is intended to vibrate glands and organs as well as move lymph.  It is performed with oils/creams, and a session that lasts between 50-90 minutes.  It is primarily for full-body sessions and promotes general relaxation.  It is effective for most ailments, because massaging the skin, the body's largest organ, sets up a chain reaction that produces a positive effect on all layers and systems of the body.  It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, circulation and promotes health and well-being.  Swedish also relieves muscle tendsion, reduces anxiety, strengthens the immune system, improves blood circiulation, detoxifies, balances the nervous system, and facilitates states of deep relaxation that may open a door to the soul and spirit in the process.

Hot Stone Therapy:

This technique uses stones that have been heated.  These stones are positioned on the body and some are gently moved about with light pressure being exerted on the warm stones.

Seated (Chair) Massage:

Sitting in a chair designed for massage which allows the therapist to massage the neck, shoulder, upper and lower back without disrobing clothes.

Sports Massage:

This special form of massage is typically used before, during, and after athletic events to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.  Depending on the needs of the athlete a variety of techniques are used including classic Swedish strokes, cross-fiber friction, pressure-point work, and joint mobilization.
